    5G Tests Cellular Wi-Fi

Marina Del Rey-based 5G Wireless said yesterday that it has begun testing a new technique to reduce the cost of broadband wireless networks. The company said that it has rolled out a new base station design that extends its campus area wireless network hardware to municipal Wi-Fi hotspots. The new technique adds 802.11b/g capability for up to 4km in 802.11b and 1.5km in 802.11g. The company is targeting large scale wireless deployments who need to cover large WiFi areas at low cost. The company said that the antennas for its new base station are constructed for 120 degree increments and can also be used for standalone 360 degree coverage.
