AeroVironment Completes Global Observer Flight Demonstration

Monrovia-based Aerovironment, the developer of unmanned aerial vehicles and electric transportation products, said today that the first aircraft developed under the Global Observer program has completed initial flight testing. Global Observer is a program to develop long-term flying aircraft to provide surveillance for the military; the goal is for aircraft to fly as long as a week at a time at very high elevations, between 55,000 and 65,000 feet. Aerovironment said the test consisted of multiple, low-altitude flights at Edwards Air Force Base, and were used to validate airworthiness of the vehicles.
