Applied Wave Research Buys European Developer

El Segundo-based Applied Wave Research said yesterday that it has acquired APLAC Solutions Oy, a developer of simulation and analysis software for analog and radio-frequenty (RF) design. APLAC's software is used to design mobile phone RF integrated circuits, and has been used by Nokia and others. The two companies compete in the area of RF EDA, used by designers of integrated circuits to simulate designs. Terms were not disclosed. The companies said that APLAC will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of AWR, with continued operations in Finland will all of APLAC's employees. AWR develops electronic design automation tools for designing high frequency electronic circuits. The company's software is used in the design of wireless telecommunications equipment, semiconductors, high-speed computers, networking systems and other RF circuits.
