Broadcom Gets Patent Win Against SiRF

Irvine-based Broadcom said Monday that the U.S. International Trade Commission has ruled that SiRF Technology Holdings has infringed on six of the firm's GPS patents. According to Broadcom, the patents--held by subsidiary Global Locate--relate to improviding global positions system processing and sensitivity. Broadcom has a number of other patent lawsuits against SiRF, a competing maker of multimedia processors and GPS receivers. The initial determination came from ITC Administrative Law Judge Carl C. Charneski; the firm said it expects final determination on the case by December. The patents in question are from Global Locate, which Broadcom acquired in July of 2007. SiRF's own patent infringement suit against Broadcom was dismissed by the ITC in June.
