Broadcom Links With Mobile Linux Group

Irvine-based Broadcom said earlier this week that it has linked into the LiMo Foundation, a group which is promoting Linux-based, mobile operating systems. The semiconductor manufacturer joins Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone, in an effort to create a unified, Linux OS specifically designed for mobile devices. The effort also hopes to create a globally consistent applications programming interface (API) which will allow open source contributions to its platform. Broadcom said that it expects to deliver Linux-compliant mobile products based on its BCM2153 multimedia baseband processor and its BCM2820 applications system-on-a-chip.
