Broadcom Rolls Out New Networking Chips

Irvine-based Broadcom rolled out a new set of networking chips this morning, used for physical layer transceivers on 2.5G and 5G Ethernet. Broadcom said its new physical layer transceivers (PHYs) provide a 2.5X to 5X data rate increase over Gigabit Ethernet, using existing cabling. Broadcom said the new chips are based on the open, royalty free MGBASE-T alliance standard, and built on 28 nanometer process technology. The company said the devices are sampling today.
