CinemaNow Launches DVD Download Service

Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow has launched a DVD, download and burn service. The download-to-burn service is the first for a movie download service, and allows consumers to download full length movies and burn it to DVD for playback. The service, which launched today, includes movies and videos from Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Lionsgate, MGM Worldwide Digital Media, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, EagleVision and Sundance Channel. The new download-to-burn service includes 101 titles that consumers can download and burn, using DVD burning software from CinemaNow and a DVD+R or DVD-R disk. Titles featured this morning on CinemaNow's site for download-to-burn include Backdraft, Barbershop, Scent of a Woman, and other titles. CinemaNow said that pricing for the DVDs start at $8.99, and include printable DVD label and cover art. The firm is tapping DVD technology from Ace GmbH, creater of the fluxDVD software. The launch puts CinemaNow ahead of competing video on demand firm Movielink, which inked a deal Monday with Sonic Solutions for DVD burning technology, but has yet to launch its own download-to-burn service.
