Cool Planet Energy Launches Commercial Production

Camarillo-based Cool Planet Energy Systems, which develops technology to capture CO2 and turn it into a soil amendment, said late Thursday that it has begun commercial production of its product, CoolTerra. The startup--which is backed by BP, Google Ventures, GE, ConocoPhillips, NRG Energy, and North Bridge Venture Partners--said its new manufacturing facility is in Camarillo. The company said its soil amendment increases crop productivity and promotes more robust plant health while reducing water and fertilizer requirements. The company's process uses biomass to produce both biofuels--gasoline and diesel--and biochar, which it is selling under the CoolTerra name.
