Cymer Merger Effort Gets Another Approval

The acquisition of San Diego's Cymer by Dutch company ASML has cleared another regulatory hurdle, the two said Thursday, as the Japan Fair Trade Commission cleared the company's acquisition deal. The two have been grinding through a long list of government clearances (so far, from the U.S., Taiwan, Germany, and Israel) since the deal was announced last October. Cymer said it still is waiting for approval from South Korea. Cymer is a developer of laser light sources used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry; ASML is a developer of lithography systems for the chipmaking process.
