Flywheel Expands Into Orange County

Flywheel, one of a number of mobile app developers offering up smartphone-driven, transportation-on-demand in Southern California, said this week that it has now expanded to Orange County. The company--which launched its Uber-style, mobile app in Los Angeles in August of last year--said it now offers up service in Irvine, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa, among others. The expansion is part of a national expansion by the company, which also included expansion in Oklahoma City, Florida, Northern California's East Bay, and other locations. There's some serious house-to-house battles between a number of flavors of ridesharing/taxi/ride companies here in Southern California, with such companies as Uber, Lyft, Sidecar, Flywheel, Taxi Magic--not to mention local taxi and transportation companies--all trying to gain the mindshare of tech-savvy, smartphone users who need a ride. Flywheel's angle on the whole area is to tap existing, licensed taxi and transportation companies to serve those mobile consumers.
