General Monitors Acquired By Pittsburgh Firm

Lake Forest-based General Monitors, a developer of equipment used for gas and flame detection, has been acquired by Pittsburgh-based MSA. The deal was worth $280M. According to MSA, General Monitors had approximately 225 employees and 2009 revenues of approximately $80M. General Monitor's equipment is used for detecting combustible gas, toxic gas, and flame in industrial and oil and gas industries. General Monitors was founded in 1961 by four aerospace engineers, originally focused on safety equipment for the U.S. space program.
