Holiday Spending Up In December, So Far

December sales at e-commerce sites are up by 7 percent from last year, despite the dismal economic conditions, according to the latest numbers released by comScore. comScore, which tracks e-commerce sales and Internet traffic, said today that sales in the first week of December (Dec 1 through Dec 7) totaled $4.45 billion, up 7 percent versus last year. For the November/December holiday season, the firm found that sales were essentially flat versus 2007, at $15.63 billion. comScore speculated that the gains were due in part to the compressed shopping period between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.
