Kurion Deploys System At Sellafield

Irvine-based hazardous waste processing systems developer Kurion says it has deployed its GeoMelt system at the notorious Sellafield nuclear site in the UK. Kurion said its system--which turns nuclear waste into compact, encased glass like beads, which can more easily be stored and transported--proceed its first commercial melt last week, treating corroded Magnox fuel sludge mixed with contaminated soil. The system is being installed for the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
