Language Weaver Puts New Twist On Recruiting, Runs Logic Contest

One Southern California firm is putting a new twist on its recruiting efforts for engineers and scientists, by running a "Puzzle Contest" which will award $1,000 for the first answer to a series of questions on the firm's site. According to the firm, the effort is part of an effort to identify smart people to fill positions of researchers or engineers at the company. In running the contest, Language Weaver is taking a book from such companies as Google and Microsoft, who regularly use logic puzzles and contests to recruit and find employees. Language Weaver said it will give $1000 to the first person to correctly submit the answer to each of eight puzzles, which are posted on the firm's web site. Language Weaver develops machine translation software, and is a spinout of the University of Southern California.
