MySpace Ramps Up Copyright Protection Efforts

Los Angeles-based MySpace, on the heels of rolling out signature-based music detection technology to find copyright violations in music posted to the site, has now put in further measures to limit copyrighted material on the popular social networking web site. The firm said today that it plans to launch a new tool that will allow copyright holders to easily remove content they believe is unauthorized. The tool, which MySpace is being tested with FOX and MLB Advanced Media, allows copyright holders to flag user-posted video content that they believe is unauthorized. Those videos will then be removed by MySpace, which will also block re-upload of the videos by other users. The site said that the tool will soon be available to other verified copyright owners.
