NRG Solar Officially Opens Largest Solar Plant in California

Carlsbad-based solar energy developer NRG Energy announced this morning that it has cut the ribbon on what it says is the largest, operating photovoltaic facility in California. The solar plant--located in Lancaster--will officially open later today. NRG said its new Alpine Solar Generating Facility will produce 66 megawatts of capacity, or the equivalent of 53,000 homes. The plant's energy output is being sold to PG&E. The Northern Los Angeles County plant actually started commercial operations earlier this year. NRG Solar says it is currently working on seven other solar energy plants nationwide.
