Nirvanix Gets Win In Arizona

San Diego-based cloud storage firm Nirvanix said today that the firm's services have been chosen by Arizona State University, as part of a project to collect high resolution images of the moon. According to Nirvanix, its products are being used by Malin Space Science Systems in a project operated by ASU, as part of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC). Nirvanix operates an Internet-based service being used by companies to store their data. Dan Stanzione, Director - Fulton School High Performance Computing, Arizona State University, said that Nirvanix was chosen instead of using a tape-based solution for the offsite component of the project. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. ASU is accessing the Nirvanix service using the firm's CloudNAS software, which provides a standard file-based CIFS or NFS connection.
