Novatel Extends MiFi Distribution

San Diego-based Novatel said yesterday that it has extended the distribution of its MiFi personal hotspot product, and is now deploying the device through KDDI Corporation in Japan as a rental. According to Novatel, KDDI is offering up its MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot as a rental service, for both Japanese consumers and business travelers. The new service offers up access to wireless roaming in 23 countries without a long term contract. KDDI said its leisure and corporate customers have been demanding international roaming for travel. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. The firms said they will offer up the Mifi 2372 for 1,280JPY per day, or approximately $15.75 per day. Novatel's MiFi device turns a cell phone data connection into a personal, Wi-Fi hotspot supporting up to five devices.
