Qualcomm Founder Steps Down From CEO Post

Dr. Irwin Jacobs, one of San Diego-based Qualcomm's original founders, said today that he is stepping down as CEO of the company. Jacobs will be stepping down in July, however will remain Chairman of the company's board. Dr. Paul Jacobs will succeed Dr. Irwin Jacobs as CEO, and Steven Altman will assume the role of President. Tony Thornley, currently president of the wireless technology giant, will also retire. Dr. Irwin Jacobs has headed Qualcomm for the last 20 years. Dr. Paul Jacobs has been with Qualcomm since 1990, and Steven Altman since 1989. Both have been active as members of the executive staff.
