RIAA Launches New Offensive

The Recording Industry Association of America has issued a new round of lawsuits against people who are sharing music files on the Internet, this time targeting an additional 493 unidentified people. The lawsuits were filed across the country in federal courts in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Texas. The group said that it was continuing the lawsuits as a message of deterrence to would-be file swappers. The group also said that it has also filed 24 lawsuits against named defendants, who the group identified through "John Doe" litigation and who were unwilling to settle the case before trial.
