Sonos Rolls Out Boost For Wireless Sound Network

Santa Barbara-based whole home music system developer Sonos said Tuesday that it has rolled out a new product, the Boost, which helps provide a better wireless network for the company's music system. The company said the new device plugs into a user's Internet router, and is able to work through walls and ceilings and avoid interference from other, wireless devices. The new device is a spin on a longtime feature of Sonos speakers and systems: its own wireless protocol, which the company only started moving away from last month with direct Wi-Fi support on its speakers. Sonos--due to concerns over Wi-Fi performance and networking issues--had originally developed its system around the SONOS BRIDGE, a device which handled wireless connectivity to its speakers.
