Sony To Provide $1M Identity Theft Protection For Users After Attack

Howard Stringer, the CEO of Sony, said in a letter released Friday to Sony's Playstation Network that the firm will provide a $1M identity theft insurance policy per user for its U.S. PlayStation Network and Qrocity customers, after a devastating cyber-attack on the firm's services. Stringer, apologizing to customers, said that the firm will also offer a free month of PLayStation Plus membership for all PSN customers, and an extension of subscriptions for its PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited services. Those services have been shut down as it looks to determine what has happened and prevent further losses. Sony Online Entertainment, the unit of Sony affected by the hack attacks, is based in San Diego.
