Spitzer Sues Intermix Over Ad Software

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer this week sued Los Angeles-based Intermix Media alleging that the firm installed intrusive ad software and spyware. The lawsuit, filed in New York, claims that Intermix installed ad-delivery programs without disclosure to users. The Attorney General said that the Intermix software redirects web addresses to Intermix proprietary search engines and web sites, as well as placing advertising toolbars and popups on users desktops. Intermix responded with a prepared statement, saying that the spyware was a result of prior executive leadership and that it has been improving the way the software works.
