Transphorm Releases Silicon Power Devices

Heavily backed power semiconductor developer Transphorm--which has raised north of $100M from such investors as Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Foundation Capital, Google Ventures, and others--said this morning that it has released a new, GaN-based power electronics product. The firm said it has released a 600 V GaN device, which is aimed at use in power supplies and adapters, PV inverters for solar panels, motor drives, as well as power conversion for electric vehicles. Transphorm said its new chips offer more compact, lower cost system than existing technology. The company said its new chips as "dramatically more efficient" than traditional, silicon-based power conversion products. Transphorm is based in Goleta.
