UCI Professor Awarded National Medal of Science

President George Bush honored thirteen individuals for their work in groundbreaking contributions commercialize technologies, create jobs, improve productivity and stimulate the nation's growth and development earlier this week, including honoring R. Duncan Luce of the University of California, Irvine. The award, established by Congress in 1980, honors pioneering scientific research. The honorees will receive the medals in a ceremony at the White House in March. R. Duncan Luce studies subjective probability and the mathematical concepts behind individual decision making ("game theory"). The science of game theory has applications to economics, evolutionary biology, and politics.
