UCLA Chemists Create Nano Motor

Researchers at UCLA, the University of Bologna, and the California NanoSystems Institute have created a nanometer size motor powered by sunlight. The researchers said that the results of their research will be published on January 31st in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The nanometer size, molecular motor could be used in nanoelectronics, molecular computers, or as nano valves for the delivery of anti-cancer drugs or other medicines. The research taps a molecular scale system called a rotaxane, a moleculer component which is about six nanometers long. The researchers said that they will next work on taking their nanomotor technology and putting them on surfaces and into membranes.
