WD Hit By Flooding In Thailand

Irvine-based Western Digital reports this morning that its hard drive production in Thailand has been hit by severe flooding. According to WD, production from its facilities close to Bangkok "will be constrained" in the current quarter, due to impact of those floods on the region's infrastructure, it's employees, and transportation. WD said that it shipped approximately 54 million hard drives from its facilities in Thailand and Malaysia, with about 60 percent coming from Thailand. WD has over 37,000 employees in Thailand. Western Digital said, while its facilities are operational, it has suspended its production to protect its equipment against water damage. The firm did not say when it expects to restart production. Thailand has been seeing its worse flooding in years, due to heavy monsoon rain which has been ongoing since July. Flooding has hit Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, in what has been described as the worst flooding in those countries in a decade.
