WD Rolls 'Green' Hard Drive

Lake Forest-based WD is taking aim at power consumption in the firm's hard drive line, saying Thursday that it has rolled out a new, power-optimized version of its WD AV hard drives. According to WD, its new Greenpower family of hard drives reduces power consumption by over 40 percent over standard hard drives. The new power optimized drives are targeted at DVRs, surveillance systems, and IP gateways. WD said the new drives are available at 500 GB, 750GB, and one terabyte capacities. WD is a major manufacturer of computer hard drives.
