Yahoo Acquires Upcoming.org

Search portal giant Yahoo has acquired Los Angeles-based Upcoming.org, an online event planning/collaboration site. Upcoming.org is a social calendar application which allows users to post free listings about events. The founders of the site said that they will be moving to the Bay area to work at Yahoo headquarters. The site allows users to post events using "wiki" type software, and will eventually be incorporated into Yahoo's services. Terms were not disclosed. The deal helps bolster Yahoo's reach into local search content.
