Zipments Looks To LA For Crowdsourced Courier Marketplace

Zipments, a startup developing a marketplace for the courier and delivery service, said today that it is launching into the Los Angeles market, hoping to help connect individuals with businesses looking for local courier service. The startup--based in Michigan--is hoping to apply a model it has been piloting in Grand Rapids, Michigan; New York City; and Chicago, to the Los Angeles area. The firm allows anyone who has a car, a text-enabled phone, and PayPal account to bid on courier services for local businesses. The firm said it is initially targeting freelancers and students, who get notification of jobs via text message, to deliver packages for local businesses. The startup said users can set up their own, pickup and delivery windows, and set their own price to deliver packages. Zipments said it specifically is looking to enable services such as food deliveries from restaurants and grocery stores, but also mentioned design firms, law firms, and others have used the service. Zipment is backed by the Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund.
