Akimbo Goes Into Download To Own
Santa Monica-based Akimbo Systems has rolled out an Internet-based, video-on-demand software focused on television. The firm said today that it is rolling out a service that allows customers to download videos via Akimbo to own, an expansion of its rental services. Akimbo licenses television programs and provides them to subscribers via broadband. The company said that the videos can be stored within Akimbo's player and Windows Media Center, and that it will offer an option to burn titles to DVD in Windows Media Format early next year. Akimbo is backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Sprout Group, and Zone Ventures.
