Altnet Gets Patent Suit Settlements From Loudeye, Overpeer
Sherman Oaks-based Altnet, operator of a peer-to-peer network for swapping music and other files, has settled a patent lawsuit the firm filed against the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Loudeye, Overpeer, and Media Sentry. The firm said yesterday that it has reached a settlement with Loudeye and Overpeer on its patent suit, where Altnet had alleged the firms violated its patents in order to flood the P2P network Kazaa with fake files. Altnet had filed the suit in late 2004. The firm is a subsidiary of Brilliant Digital Entertainment, and has been focusing on getting films studios and record labels on using its service for selling licensed digital content.
