    Avamar Touts Patent
    Irvine-based Avamar (www.avamar.com) announced that it has been granted a patent for its disk-based backup system. The company's patent was on a hash file system used to reduce the amount of data that needs to be stored for disk-based backup. Avamar is backed by cmgi@ventures, Benchmark, Lightspeed, and Goldman Sachs.
