Pasadena-based Big Stage Entertainment said today that it has debuted a beta version of its web site. The startup has developed software which uses digital photos to create a life-like, 3D avatar. The firm's technology was developed at the University of Southern California. According to Big Stage, the firm will offer a free avatar creation service and online platform to create your own avatar, which can be exported in movie clips and still images. The software--which runs on Windows XP or Windows Vista--takes 3 digital photos and converts them into a software avatar after some processing. The firm said it expects general availability of the technology in Q4 of this year. Big Stage is venture backed by Mission Ventures, Selby Ventures, and the Tech Coast Angels.
