BIOCOM, CONNECT Launch Life Sciences Accelerator

San Diego-based BIOCOM and CONNECT, two of the area's dominant organizations for the biotechnology industry, have launched a new business targeted at technology startups. The two groups said that they have a committee called the San Diego Life Science Accelerator (SD-LSA) which looks to fund and mentor new technology companies. The groups said in a statement yesterday that the committee will evaluate the business case and investment structure to develop very early stage life science technologies in the San Diego region. The groups pointed to the difficulty of funding early stage life science innovations, as Federal and State funding moves towards basic research and venture capital toward later stage investment.
