    Broadcom Acquires Zyray Wireless for $96M


    Irvine-based Broadcom has acquired San Diego-based Zyray Wireless, a developer of baseband co-processors for the WCDMA mobile market. Zyray develops a chip for enabling third generation mobile communications, supporting the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) protocol. The all-stock deal will add Zyray's solutions to Broadcom's existing line of EDGE/GPRS/GSM mobile products. Zyray is backed by EDF Ventures, Formative Ventures, and Mission Ventures.
