    Broadcom Upgrades RAID Controllers

Irvine-based Broadcom (www.broadcom.com) said today that it has upgraded its RAIDCore line of RAID controllers to support distributed sparing, a technique used to increase the availability of RAID systems. Distributed sparing provides space on RAID devices without relying on a single "hot spare" disk, reducing the amount of downtime and vulnerability to a single drive failure.
