Tech and the California Economy: Is the Future in the Code? |
Location:Los Angeles |
Tech and the California Economy: Is the Future in the Code? UCLA Forecast. The information age is upon us and will continue to disrupt old ways of doing things and replace them with new digitally driven processes. Will this transformation be like the Industrial Revolution, painful but ultimately democratizing by increasing incomes and leisure time for the vast majority of Americans, or will it further inequality and continue to hollow out the middle class? These key questions will be discussed as part of the June quarterly update of the Anderson Forecast Conference. See http://www.uclaforecast.com | Download to Calendar |
Are Machines Learning? (RAS/IAS BV Chapter) |
Location:Thousand Oaks |
IEEE BUENAVENTURA RAS/IAS CHAPTER Are the Machines Learning? By Karl Geiger. Golem or just a better mental grasp? The popular press, writers, and several leading technologists have been making headlines with fears of AIs ruling the earth and humanity. But are the machines truly learning, or are we merely programming and training them to do more sophisticated data processing? This talk presents a brief overview of machine learning techniques, then sets these applications in real-world contexts. As with any new tool, we have more to fear from human mis-application and mis-apprehension of these tools than from the tools themselves. Karl Geiger is Chief Software Architect at Neural ID in Redwood, CA. See http://are-machines-learning.eventbrite.com/ | Download to Calendar |
