Last Customer Standing - How to Market to the Federal Government
Date: April 15, 2009
Location: Santa Barbara
The MIT Enterprise Forum of the Central Coast Presents: Last Customer Standing - How to Market to the Federal Government. In times of economic trouble, when private companies are cutting spending and state governments cannot pay their vendors, the U.S. Federal Government remains the world's largest customer; one that pays its bills with opportunities for startup companies and small businesses in nearly every field. And the opportunities are not just for the Boeings and Raytheons of the world. With $518 billion in contracts last year, 230f which was directed to small business, there are programs in nearly every government agency for small businesses, businesses owned by women, minorities, or veterans and businesses located in distressed areas. You'd be surprised to find out where in Santa Barbara, Goleta, and the surrounding areas your startup's location could help you access government set-aside contracts. Join us for an evening rich in lessons learned and advice that goes beyond how to fill out paperwork. Hear how one local company grew from a handful of employees to 600 employees as a government contractor, what strategies worked well, and what pitfalls they encountered. Learn how to take advantage of the programs mentioned above to sell directly to large contractors, not just government customers. Find out how to find potential government customers and arrange face-to-face meetings with them. The program is sure to be informative and timely. Three presentations will be followed by a panel discussion- please bring your questions for our speakers. See http://www.mitcentralcoast.com
