BRIDGING CULTURES: JAPAN-US AND ACADEME-INDUSTRY. Science and Engineering Council. Collaboration between academia and industry is important for advancing technology. However, there is a universal disconnect between "curiosity-driven" and "profits-driven" research. Another cultural gap is created by different communication styles and ways of thinking in Japan and the USA. To bridge these gaps and achieve common goals, effective communication is needed.
