Entrepreneurship in Pasadena: The need for Immigration Reform. Pasadena is home to several institutions of innovation that draw talented individuals from all over the world, including Caltech, JPL, and a host of fast-growing tech companies based in the city. With the H-1B application opening up on April 1st, we want to center the conversation on the barriers immigrant entrepreneurs and technologists must face when dealing with the legal immigration system in this country. Every year, there is a lottery for 85,000 H-1B visas; last year, 233,000 people applied in a 6-day window before the application was closed. Only about 360f applicants were granted an opportunity to contribute their brilliance to our country in 2015. With so much talent readily available, what can we do to better welcome these talented students and individual who arrive in the U.S. with a dream, and allow more individuals the opportunity to move our country forward with new and innovative ideas? See
