Caltech Gets $6.75M For Computing Facility
Pasadena-based Caltech (www.caltech.edu) announced that the National Science Foundation has awarded the school $6.75M to house a new community-based, software engineering effort for scientific computing in geophysics. The NSF grant will fund an initiative to create a scientific computing capability to study seismology, plate tectonics, volcanism, and geomagnetism. According to Caltech, the new center will develop advanced software based on the latest scientific computing techniques, and will be based in Pasadena. The center's resources will also be extended to at least 24 other research institutions.
