CinemaNow Adds Day and Date to DVD

Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow announced this morning that it will offer Day and Date burning of "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" today for DVD burning, on the same day that the movie is released nationwide in retail stores. The DVD will be available for $9.99. The deal is the first time a major studio has released a DVD both in retail stores and for purchase online, instead of waiting what has typically been six weeks or more before online release. Universal Studios said that the move was part of a continuing push to leverage emerging technologies as new avenues for entertainment content delivery. CinemaNow's burn-to-DVD service allows consumers to download full DVD quality movies to a DVD that can be played on television, in addition to being watched on a PC.
