Citysearch Debuts Visual Guide Site, New iPhone App

West Hollywood-based Citysearch has launched two new products today, including both a visual city guide, and a new iPhone app. Citysearch said its new Guides by Citysearch service is aimed at helping users easily find new places in major cities around the country, in a photo-centric way. Separately, the company also launched a new iPhone app, which it says features new expert content linked to those city guides and a new redesigned UI.

Citysearch's new Guides site follows the recent photo-centric browsing trend, offering up large photos which can be browsed on the site or the new iPhone app, and which users can click into for more information. Reminiscent of the photo browsing of Pinterest, the company's guides center around different subject areas (coffee shops, car washes, different categories of restaurants, hotels). However, unlike social sites like Pinterest, those guides appear to all developed by staffers or experts provided by Citysearch. Citysearch said its expert "scouts" include mayors of major cities, food writers, bloggers, and photographers.
