South Pasadena-based Cogent Systems has acquired British Colunbia-based Kinetic Sciences, a developer of fingerprint sensor and identification solutions, for $750,000. Cogent said that it has acquired the assets and intellectual property of the firm, and in particular three U.S. patents focused on low profile optical sensors and image reconstruction technology. Cogent said that it believes that the technology will strengthen its competitive position in the commercial biometrics market. Cogent provides automated fingerprint identification systems to government and law enforcement.
