In a bid to help independent musicians and labels monetize unauthorized use of their material on YouTube, a new service, ContentID.com, launched this morning. The service--provided by Los Angeles-based AdRev--said it will provide YouTube monetization services to independent musicians, labels, and publishers worldwide. The service said it helps muic artists to make sure they can get 100% of the payout on the videos on their official YouTube channel, and 80% on fan uploaded and user generated content that uses their music. ContentID's service allows music owners to upload a copy of their music to the service, then automatically helps identify that same content being used on YouTube. AdRev runs AudioMicro.com, ImageCollect.com, and other websites, and is venture backed by DFJ Frontier and Fotolia LLC.
