D-Link Adds BitTorrent Support

Fountain Valley-based networking hardware provider D-Link has created a new take on its network attached storage (NAS) devices, saying this morning that it will enable BitTorrent file downloads and uploads directly from the device. D-Link said it has shipped a free software upgrade for its DNS-323 Network Storage Enclosure and DIR-655 devices, which will enable the devices to directly link into BitTorrent peer-to-peer networks. The upgrade will turn the D-Link device into a BitTorrent Media Hub. According to D-Link, the upgrade comes through BitTorrent's licensing and certification program. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing network and protocol, which is also being used for distributing large files and rich media.
