DOJ Drops Movielink Investigation

The Department of Justice has dropped its investigation into Movielink, the online film rental service backed by Sony, Warner Bros. MGM, Paramount, and Universal. The department was investigating antitrust charges that were put forth by competitors to the service, including now defunct Intertainer. The DOJ said that its investigation has found that the joint venture did not harm competition or the consumers of movies, and that it would continue to monitor licensing in the area. The investigation had been ongoing since August of 2001.
