    Earthlink Announces Major Layoffs, Shrinks Pasadena Presence


    Atlanta-based Earthlink announced a corporate restructuring Tuesday afternoon, saying that it will cut 900 jobs nationwide at the ISP. According to Earthlink, it will "substantially reduce" its presence in Pasadena, California, along with other cuts in its Atlanta offices. The firm also said it is closing its Orlando, Florida; Knoxville, Tenn., Harrisburg, Penn., and San Francisco offices. The firm said it will record costs of $60-70M in facility exit and restructuring costs. The company blamed trends in Internet access as it sees a deceleration in subscribers; the firm's business has been hurt by in the industry's shift from dial-up to broadband access.
