Santa Monica-based content delivery network provider EdgeCast Networks said today that it has launched what it says is the "world's fastest" domain name system (DNS) service. EdgeCast said the new product, EdgeCast Route, offers enterprise-grade DNS, and helps address issues with degraded performance, malicious DNS attacks, and other issues with current DNS solutions. Pricing on the new product was not announced. EdgeCast said its testing has found the service helps improve performance of websites of 15% to more than 300%. Most companies typically use standard, out-of-the-box DNS support built into operating systems or maintained by Internet Service Providers. Those DNS services were built in the original days of the Internet, and typically do not include security and performance improvements.
